Welcome to the Northwest Society of Plastic Surgeons Website!

The Northwest Society of Plastic Surgeons is a regional plastic surgery society. We serve a 350 physician membership from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, British Columbia, Alaska, and Hawaii.

We welcome applications for membership from interested candidate plastic surgeons. Please see our Membership section.

Next annual scientific meeting, our 48th, is February 20-24, 2010 at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort. Announcements, abstract requests and registration info are being mailed, and will also here on the website for download. Drew and Vicky got us very good room rates. Thanks to good stewardship by Dr. Welk and the other officers, we are financially healthy, so registration fees for members will be reduced to $200 during these recessionary times. Block room rates are $280/330/370 per night, the last for "Ocean Deluxe".

This is a spectacular place, rated Hawaii's fourth best resort on a 2008 Travel Channel "Top 10" countdown. The PGA Grand Slam event was played annually at the Poipu Bay Club (adjacent to the Hyatt) from 1994-2006, and we will be playing there.

The Hyatt's spa is probably the best of any of the places we've been. The pool complex between the hotel and the ocean beach is huge and multifaceted, with an artificial salt water lagoon/beach fronting the whole ensemble. All the usual Hawaii stuff to do locally, and then some. Direct flights to Kauai are available.

Doctors Rollin Daniel and Tim Marten have committed to be our guest faculty. I will advise you of the agenda as it emerges.

All physicians and healthcare professionals are welcome to attend. There is truly something of interest for everyone at our annual meeting.

Spouses and kids are also well-taken care of at the meeting sites.

2/1/10 Pre-Meeting NEWS! (Mirrors emailing of 1/31/10)

Aloha All,

Less than three weeks before it's time to leave work and go play, er, study in Hawaii...

A few things to keep in mind:

- Our keynote speakers, Drs. Rollin Daniel and Timothy Marten, will chair a rhinoplasty/aesthetic facial surgery panel from 9-10 am Tuesday morning - please bring along a couple of your own cases, whether problems or triumphs, to share and discuss with our panel experts. We are devoting an hour to this panel and there should be time for all who are interested to participate.

- When you check in at the Grand Hyatt, please clarify whether you wish to add a $15 daily "Resort Services" fee - this fee is discretionary and you do not have to accept it. For those who are interested, the fee includes the following (this is taken from the attached Grand Hyatt Hotel Information Sheet):

A daily Resort Fee of $15.00 inclusive provides additional amenities and services to enhance the guest experience and provides the following:
Local and 1-800 and 1-888 Phone Calls
Self and Valet Parking
Incoming Faxes
One-Hour Court Time Per Day at the Tennis Garden
Daily Fitness Access for 2 at ANARA Spa (Minimum Age Requirement is 16 years old. Lockers, Steam, Jacuzzi, Pool, and Sauna are not included).
Daily Unlimited Wellness Classes for 2 at ANARA Spa
Plus some resort discounts on retail purchases

- Please review the attached meeting program to assist you in planning your stay. All afternoons are free. Note hosted events on the evenings of the 20th, 22nd, and 23rd.

- Golfers, please consider securing tee times. Contact Chad Dusenberry at the Poipu Bay Golf Course at 808-742-94489 (or dusenberry@poipubaygolf.com) to arrange. Reference the NWSPS when you call. I have secured a block of five tee times for our group on Sunday, Feb. 21, from 12:40-1:20 and on Monday, Feb. 22, from 1:40-2:20 (there is a tournament at the course Monday morning). I will release all unbooked tee times on these dates by Feb. 16 so that the NWSPS is not charged for unused times. These times are first-come-first-serve, but of course individuals can book golf any other time they prefer. A group discounted greens fee of $125 will apply during the dates of the meeting (Feb. 20-24). Greens fees on dates later in the week will be discounted to $140/round. Individual golfers will be responsible for all expenses (including the tournament round) associated with golf.

Our annual golf tournament will be held on Tuesday, with 11 tee times for 44 golfers currently reserved from 11:50-1:30. The format is yet to be determined. We may run two concurrent tournaments - an USGA handicap-based stroke play contest for the serious golfers (you know who you are) and perhaps a scramble or best-ball for the rest of you (who have enough sense not to take it too seriously). In typical chaotic NWSPS Annual Open fashion, we will figure this stuff out at the last possible minute (or perhaps even after the tournament). I would like to get a rough headcount of those interested in playing Tuesday to make sure I've got enough tee times, so please advise if this is of interest (note that class is getting out early that day). Prizes will include tacky clothing and low compression golf balls. Brian Peterson didn't know until he read this sentence that he'll be in charge of the tournament. :-)

- We are fortunate to have excellent vendor support this year, with Mentor and Allergan once again sponsoring traditional Saturday and Monday evening receptions . All exhibitors will be acknowledged in the printed program and will look forward to meeting you and demonstrating their products and services.

Thanks to all for joining the party - see you soon!
